New Zealand. 2nd North Canterbury Infantry helmet plate circa 1903.
A fine scarce OR’s die-stamped brass example. Resting in a fern wreath, an oval strap inscribed “2nd North Canterbury Infantry” surmounted by the Royal Crest. To the centre, a crane on curved scroll “Akeakekiakaha”. Three loops to reverse. VGC

9th (Queen’s Royal) Lancers Officer’s lance cap plate circa 1858-1880.
A very fine and rare example. Copper gilt fluted rayed back plate with ornate gilt and silver mounts comprising the Crowned double shield and Royal Supporters of the late Queen Adelaide, her cypher “AR” reversed and interlaced; the title “Royal Lancers” and eight battle honour scrolls from “Peninsula” to “Delhi” and “Lucknow”. Very tip of top ray AF.
Provenance. Ex Hugh King Collection. This is the actual piece photographed as No. 719 in “Head-dress Badges of the British Army”.

Essex Regiment Territorial Battalion post 1908 Officer’s helmet plate.
A fine and scarce gilt example of crowned star pattern mounted with oak wreath and Garter. To the centre, in silver, the three tower Castle surmounted by the Sphinx resting on a blank tablet, below the Castle, the Key and Motto all on a black velvet ground. To the base of the wreath, an applied silver scroll inscribed “The Essex Regiment”. Three loops to reverse

40th (2nd Somersetshire) Regiment of Foot Officer’s 1844-55 “Albert” shako plate.
An exceptionally fine and rare example. Rich gilt eight pointed star, the topmost point displaced by a Crown. Mounted on the star, a gilt hobnail star with straight tips to the principal rays which bear battle honours. Mounted on the star, a laurel wreath; within the wreath, a strap inscribed “2nd Somersetshire; gilt “40” to burnished gilt centre. The wreath bears four part scroll inscribed “Candahar” “Guznee 1842” “Maharajpoor” “Cabool”. Reverse retains both original horizontal loops; four wires behind the Crown now absent. Top pearl on cross absent. Plate curved to shape of shako. VGC
During the period this plate was worn, 40th saw service in India and in 1842 proceeded to Australia. It served there and in New Zealand for the next 15 years.

A fine and scarce blackened example. The highpoints of the mounted centre burnished to accentuate the highlights. retaining both sets of fixing wires.
Raised as 23rd Middlesex in 1859 and renumbered 14th Middlesex in 1880.

A really splendid rich gilt example. Royal Arms, pierced around the shield, with scroll beneath inscribed “Ubique”. Below the scroll, a gun with mounted wheel resting on a scroll inscribed ““Quo Fas Et Gloria Ducunt”. Three loops to reverse.

Royal Wiltshire Yeomanry Victorian Officer’s shako plate.
A very fine and scarce example die-stamped blackened crowned Maltese cross surmounted by a Crown with silvered highlights. Raised edges to the hobnail arms; to the centre, within a strap inscribed “Prince of Wales’s Own Royal Regiment”, applied Prince of Wales' plumes. Retains both original loops to reverse.

Rifle Brigade Victorian OR’s helmet plate circa 1878-90.
An excellent die-stamped blackened brass example. Within a laurel wreath surmounted by a Guelphic Crown resting on a tablet inscribed “Waterloo”, a Maltese cross with lions between the arms and ball finials to the tips. The arms of the cross bear numerous honours; the wreath bears honours “Sevastopol Alma Inkerman”. Between the bottom arm of the cross and the wreath, three scrolls “Lucknow” over “Peninsula” with “Ashantee” below; across the base of the wreath, a scroll “The Prince Consort’s Own”. Three loops to reverse. Complete with original velvet backing cloth. (KK 284)

A good extremely scarce die-stamped brass example of crowned star pattern bearing Garter; seeded centre pierced with “83” Retains both original lead soldered iron loops to reverse. Generally VGC
83rd raised 29th September 1793 in Dublin by Colonel William Fitch, popularly known as "Fitch's Grenadiers"; in 1881 became 1st Bn. Royal Irish Rifles.
