A very fine rich gilt full dress example comprising two oval seeded plates with raised burnished edges and plain belt loops; each oval mounted an inward facing Royal Crest in gilt and joined together by a snake hook fastening bearing the honour “Ubique”.

The Duke of Cambridge’s Own (Middlesex Regiment), Officer’s waist belt clasp circa 1881-1901.
Gilt circlet inscribed in silver, “The Duke of Cambridge’s Own”; the seeded gilt centre with silver mounts comprising laurel sprays, the Prince of Wales’s crest and motto, a Saxon crown, a shield bearing the county arms and a scroll, “Albuhera”. Universal pattern rococo ends. (Ryan 225). Minor service wear

The Middlesex Regiment was known as “The Diehards” from the Battle of Albuhera on 16th May 1911 when the British engaged a much larger French force resulting in heavy British casualties. Colonel Inglis of the 57th (later 1st Bn Middlesex) was wounded but refused to be carried from the field but insisted on being placed by the Colours and urged his men on with cries of “Die hard, my men, die hard”. Out of the 570 all ranks the 57th fielded that day, 22 Officers and 400 men were killed or wounded.

Army Pay Department Officer’s waist belt clasp circa 1878-1901.
A very fine and scarce silver and gilt example with matching benchmarks to both halves. Circlet inscribed “Army Pay Department”; gilt centre mounted with Royal Crest in silver. Oak leaf ends. Some polishing to high points of Royal Crest otherwise fine.

Officer only Corps raised on 1st April 1878 from a Royal Warrant of 22nd October 1877. HM King George V, conferred the title “Royal” in April 1920, on both the Army Pay Department and the OR’s Army Pay Corps. The two were amalgamated later that years as the Royal Army Pay Corps. The Corps of Military Accountants, raised 22nd November 1919, merged with the RAPC in 1925.

A good silver and gilt example with matching numbers to both halves. Circlet inscribed “South Hampshire Regiment”; the seeded gilt centre mounted with silver Crown over “67”. Universal pattern rococo ends. Slight wear to gilt and polishing to Crown highpoints. GC (Ryan 102)

Royal Irish Fusiliers Officer’s waist belt clasp circa 1881-1901.
A very fine silver and gilt example of special pattern with matching numbers to both halves. Gilt circlet bearing silvered laurel wreath surmounted by a Crown; at the base of the wreath, a tri-part scroll inscribed “Royal Irish Fusiliers”; mounted on the seeded gilt centre, a gilt flaming grenade; mounted on the ball, in silver, the Eagle resting on a tablet inscribed “8”. Shamrock ends each bearing the Maid of Erin Harp. VGC (Ryan 232)

The Eagle and tablet inscribed “8” represents the Eagle on the flagstaff of the 8th French Light Infantry captured by Sergeant Patrick Masterson of the 87th Fusiliers at Barossa on 5th March 1811. This was the first Eagle taken in the Peninsular War.

Royal Munster Fusiliers scarce Officer’s waist belt clasp 1881-1902.
A fine silver and gilt example of special pattern. Burnished gilt circular plate mounted with a silver deep laurel wreath entwined with a silver scroll bearing the battle honours of the Regiment and inscribed “Royal Munster” at the base. Within the wreath, a gilt flaming grenade; mounted on the ball, the Royal Tiger in silver. Oak leaf ends. Minor service wear, generally good condition (Ryan 238)

Royal Dublin Fusiliers Militia Bn. Officer’s waist belt clasp circa 1881-1901.
A splendid scarce silver and gilt example of special pattern. On a round burnished gilt plate, a deep shamrock wreath, the lower part bearing, on the right, the Royal Tiger on a blank tablet; on the left, the Elephant on a blank tablet. Above the Elephant and Tiger, a blank scroll. Within the wreath, a gilt grenade bearing a silver circlet inscribed “Royal Dublin Fusiliers” with silver Harp to centre. Shamrock ends bearing the Harp. Very good condition.

A good rare undress example. Fire gilt rectangular plate; mounted on the plate, in silver, an open topped shamrock wreath with Crowned Maid of Erin Harp to centre resting on Star of the Most Illustrious Order of St.Patrick which is superimposed on the base of the wreath. Fixed belt loop present, detachable belt loop now absent. Some wear to gilt, orb and cross surmounting Crown now absent.

A very fine post 1881 silvered and gilt example of special pattern with oak leaf ends. Mounted on a round burnished gilt plate, a silvered oak wreath enclosing a Crowned circlet inscribed “The Essex Regiment”. To the centre, the Arms of Essex on a red enamel ground surmounted by the Sphinx resting on a tablet inscribed “Egypt”. To the junction of the oak wreath, the Castle and Key of Gibraltar. Chip to enamel on top of shield otherwise VGC. (Ryan 211)

Life Guards Victorian Officer’s waist belt plate
A very fine example comprising a seeded gilt rectangular plate, mounted with the Collar of the Order of the Garter, surmounted by a Crown. Mounted on the Collar, a silver Garter Star, the Garter pierced and set on a blue enamel ground, the central Cross of St.George in red translucent enamel. On either side of the collar the letters “L.G.” reversed and intertwined. Below the letters, a scroll upon a twig of laurel on one side inscribed “Peninsula”, on the other “Waterloo”. Fixed belt loop present, detachable belt loop now absent. Minor blemish to red enamel VGC

4th Royal Lancashire Light Infantry Militia Victorian Officer’s waist belt clasp circa 1856-81.
A good scarce gilt example. Circlet inscribed “Royal Lancashire Light Infantry”; centre bears silver Crown with a Rose superimposed on a strung bugle. Plain ends. A little wear to gilt and to silver highpoints. Good condition.
Raised 22nd March 1853 at Warrington. Became 3rd Bn. South Lancashire Regiment on Friday 1st July 1881.

King Edward VII ascended the Throne upon the death of Queen Victoria 22nd January 1901. The dress sword belt was abolished by Army Order 39/1902 issued 1st February 1902.
