Royal Naval Air Service scarce Engineer’s sleeve badge.
A good bullion embroidered eagle with propeller below on navy melton cloth ground. Small area of moth holes, otherwise GC.

The Naval Wing of the Royal Flying Corps was authorised 11th July 1912 and soon became known as the Royal Naval Air Service, this title was officially recognised in July 1914. The RNAS merged with the Royal Flying Corps to form the Royal Air Force on 1st April 1918.

WW1 RAF 1918 Observer's Ephemera Paperwork.
A rare complete set of ephemera appertaining to Second Lieutenant Frederick Oliver Hountrods who qualified as an Observer in the closing stages of the Great War. Comprising: Certificate of service card. Four sided with personal details postings etc. .... Rare RAF Observer Transfer Card. .... 1918 RAF Commission. .... 1918 King's Message to the RAF. .... Certificate of Service March 1919, given on resigning his commission. .... Six snap shot photographs showing Bristol Fighter and a Blackburn kangaroo Bomber. .... Group photograph No. 2 Sq No 7 RAF Cadet Wing. .... Family photograph showing him wearing RAF uniform with Observer brevet. .... An interest four sided hand written letter, giving details of his training with 2 Squadron Hastings dated 7th July 1918. The letter refers to sending home his Cap Badge with is present. Overall GC. Second Lieutenant Frederick Oliver Hountrods was born in June 1898 in Cumberland and joined the RAF on the 12th June 1918. Following his initial training as an Officer Cadet he was selected for Observer Training arriving at the No.1 school of Aeronautics on the 9th August 1918. He qualified as an Observer and received his commission in December 1918. He was released from the RAF in March 1919. During WW2 he served with a rocket Anti Aircraft battery of the Leicestershire Home Guard.
