| 14th Punjab Regiment 1944 Military Medal.
Awarded to "12391 Hav. Hari Chand 14 Punjab R.", who was originally recommended for the Indian Distinguished Service Medal. Regiment erasure attempted but visible. Naming clear.
The recommendation is dated 5th October 1944. "Between 12/27 Sep this NCO was a member of a fighting patrol operating against the enemy along the Tiddin Rd. During this operation the patrol covered over 100 miles of difficult jungle country man-handling their LMG's and 3' mortars for long distances in torrential monsoon weather, and under heavy fire of enemy mortars and artillery directed by O.P's. Hav Hari Chand commanded his ambush post along the road in a praiseworthy manner instilling confidence in the men by his coolness and personal disregard of danger. Throughout the operation this NCO set a very high example of courage and determination and contributed much to the success of the operations." The recommendation was originally for the IDSM but was downgraded to the MM. Signed by GOC Fourteenth Army and C-in-C Allied Land Forces SEA. The awarded appeared in the London Gazette of 13th September 1945

| 16th Queen’s Lancers OR’s lance cap circa 1901-14.
A good example. The skull, peak and crown of black patent leather with ornate gilt metal fleur bosses to each corner of the mortar board top. A King’s Crown triangular plate to the front bears battle honours including those of the Boer War. the last being “South Africa 1900-02”. Lion’s head bosses to each side, support a black leather backed brass chinchain. Woollen cord boss with regimental post 1901 button to centre supports a black horsehair plume mounted in gilt metal plume holder. Leather and waxed cotton lining to the interior, bearing 1911 issue stamp. Complete with yellow mohair cord cap lines (not illustrated). Good condition.
The 16th Lancers were the only regiment to crimp their lance pennons; this custom was adopted by the regiment after the Battle of Aliwal, when after the battle, the blood stained pennons dried crimped in the heat of the sun. At the battle, they were commanded by John Rowland Smyth, the regiment capturing 11 pieces of artillery and driving the Sikh infantry completely off the field after three distinct charges. |

| 1918 17th Armoured Car Bn. Tank Corps Military Cross and Trio with miniatures.
A fine group awarded to Captain Joseph Alfred Edward May, comprising: Military Cross, 1914/15 Star “1865 Pte.15-Lond R”, British War Medal, Victory Medal “Capt”. GC mounted as worn ... together with corresponding set of miniature medals and various photocopies relating to May from “History of the 17th (Armoured Car) Tank Battalion”.
The recommendation for the Military Cross. “For exceptional gallantry, determination and devotion to duty during the advance from Favril to Avesnes on the 7th November 1918 while commanding a section of Armoured cars. During the whole day his cars were constantly engaging enemy in closely intersected country along roads that were full of obstacles and were being blown up in numerous places by the enemy. His skill and determination in overcoming all difficulties were a fine example to his men”. Captain May was commanding two Armored Cars attached to the 32nd Division and on the 7th November were heavily engaged by the enemy at one point coming under trench mortar fire. Captain May is confirmed as serving in the ranks of the 15th Battalion London Regiment, landing in France on the 17th March 1915. Selected for Officer Training he was commissioned into the Machine Gun Corps in September 1915. The 17th Battalion was formed in March 1918 as a Tank Battalion and was converted to Armoured Cars in April 1918. An account of the Battalion’s operations can be found in the Gale & Polden publication of 1920 |

A fine and rare example of the dark green cloth Home Service Pattern helmet complete with blackened metal cross piece, spike and rose head bosses with support a blackened “roped” link chinchain (some links absent, backing cloth absent). To the front, a crowned Maltese cross with lions between the arms; to the centre, the Arms of Bristol within a circlet inscribed “1 Glos City of Bristol RV”. Retains cream silk topped leather sweatband to the interior. A little service wear but overall in very good condition.

Private 4800 Edward P Tait was born in 1880 and enlisted in 1895, originally posted to the 2nd Battalion. His brother 3100 Lance Corporal C Tait was born four years earlier in 1876. He reenlisted into the army joining the Bedfordshire Regiment on the 7th June 1915. His medal index card confirms the issue of the BWM Only. He was also awarded a Silver War Badge on discharge on the 18th September 1918. The Roll confirms his name as Charles Walter and his age is given as 42 years which confirms this as Pte C Tait formerly of the DCLI. The 1881 British Census also confirms their full names and shows them living at the 30th Brigade Depot, with their father Corporal Charles Tait of the 10th Regiment.

A very fine example by J & Co. (Jennens) bearing Birmingham hallmarks. Silver laurel wreath, surmounted by a Crown resting on a blank tablet; within the wreath a Maltese cross with ball finials to the tips and lions between the arms. To the centre, within a circlet inscribed “D.C.O. Infantry”, the numerals “XX”. Honour scrolls on the left side of the wreath “Taku Forts Ali Musjid Egypt Punjab Frontier”, to the right “Pekin 1860 Afghanistan 1878-80 Tel-el-Kebir China 1900”. Below the wreath a scroll inscribed “Brownlow’s Punjabis”. Loose sprung ring to base of wreath in order to secure whistle chains. Four screw posts to reverse, complete with backing plate. VGC

A fine and scarce grey cloth Home Service pattern helmet with blackened brass fittings and helmet plate comprising a Maltese cross surmounted by crowned “MR” cypher with “20” resting on a scroll inscribed “Artists”. Centre of cross mounted with conjoined heads of Mars and Minerva. Retains leather sweatband. One or two minor surface moth traces generally very good condition.
Badge designed by J.W. Wyon the famous medal designer who served as a private in the Corps which was raised as 38th Middlesex RV, renumbered 20th in 1880. Attached to Rifle Brigade in 1881 and became 28th County of London (Artists Rifles) in 1908. 1947 became 21 Special Air Service (Artists) and continue today as an active SAS unit. |

A magnificent rare example of a turn of the century Officer's lance cap. The skull of black patent leather with the upper portion of French Grey melton cloth, with gold gimp cord across the top and down the angles. To the left side is a gold bullion rosette with embroidered regimental device of a VRI Cypher onto a velvet ground. This supports a gilt plume cup and replacement white stitched swans feather drooping plume. The gilt lance cap plate is mounted with silvered King’s Crown Royal Arms, battle honour Khartoum, regimental device and title scroll. Patent leather peak with gold bullion lines. Two gilt metal lion head boss’s support chin chain with velvet backing. Leather sweat band and traces of crimson silk lining retaining embossed stamp for Hawkes & Co. London. Slight age wear, plate remains bright with congealing to the back of the skull, one o two very small moth holes and nips to the melton cloth. GC |

A fine and very scarce example. Burnished gilt rectangular plate mounted with silver Crowned laurel wreath with “XXXI” to centre. The wreath rests on a tableau of honours “Talavera, Albuhera, Vittoria, Pyrenees, Nivelle, Nive, Peninsula” with fasces beneath. Reverse retains original fixings comprising two hooks and two studs. A little wear to gilt. Good condition. (Parkyn 264)

A very fine and scarce example. Die-stamped large silver-gilt cross pattee, the arms lined, the top one bearing the honour “Mediterranean”. To the centre, within a circlet inscribed “The Wiltshire Regiment”, the coronet within the cypher of HRH The Duke of Edinburgh. Two loops to reverse. Complete with backing plate. Very good condition.
With origins in four regiments, it was reorganised as The Wiltshire Militia 8th November 1758; redesignated Royal Wiltshire Militia 29th June 1841 at Marlborough. Under Cardwell’s reforms, on Friday 1st July 1881, it became 3rd Bn. Wiltshire Regiment. Awarded the honour “Mediterranean” in 1856 for garrison duties performed during the Crimean War |

A very fine and rare example. Seeded fire gilt rectangular plate with burnished edges; mounted on the plate, a cut silver eight pointed star; mounted on the star, a gilt Crowned Garter resting within a laurel wreath. Within the Garter, silver Prince of Wales' plumes set on a rich blue translucent enamel ground; between the Garter and the base of the wreath “XLI” with “Niagara” and “Ava” below and “Queenstown” above. On the left of the wreath, a scroll inscribed “Detroit”; on the right another “Miami”. Reverse retains original fixings comprising two hooks and two studs. Slight wear to gilt on highpoints, generally VGC.
During the latter period this plate was worn the 41st were commanded by Hugh Rowlands VC, KCB. The 1st Battalion fought at Alma, Inkerman and throughout the Siege of Sevastopol. On the evacuation of the Crimea in 1856 the Regiment proceeded home and then to Jamaica the following year until 1860. |

The announcement of the Military Medal appeared in the London Gazette on the 20th August 1919. His unit is given as the 46th and his home county as Dunfermline. The 46th served on the Western Front with the 15th Scottish Division and saw major action during the closing months of the war. |

A good example of dark blue melton cloth ornamented with a wide band of gold regimental pattern lace and bullion cord to the welt of the crown. Besides two small moth holes to the crown it is in very good condition. |

Many of it’s members served in the Boer War resulting in the Battalion being awarded the honour “South Africa 1900-02” in 1905. Became 24th (County of London) Battalion, The London Regiment on 1st April 1908. |

During the period this plate was worn, the 56th returned home from Bermuda in 1855 and were rushed straight to the Crimea and served before Sebastopol from July until after the fall of the City. It returned home in June 1856 and the following year went to Bombay where it remained throughout the Mutiny. |

| 6th Dragoon Guards (Carabiniers) Officer’s 1871 pattern helmet.
An exceptionally fine example worn by Lieutenant Colonel Hereward Sadler. Gilt metal skull decorated with laurel leaves; to the front a silvered Garter star bearing gilt strap “The Carabiniers” which encircles silvered Royal Crest. Fluted gilt spike supports a white regimental pattern horsehair plume with gilt metal rose boss. Brass rose head boss to either side support the brass leather-backed chin chain. The interior with a cotton lining. VGC. Both the helmet and plume are housed in separate metal storage tins. The helmet tin bears a brass plate engraved “Capt Hereward Sadler 6th Dragoon Guards”
Lieutenant Colonel Hereward Sadler had served in the ranks of the Imperial Yeomanry during the Boer War before he was granted a commission into the 6th DG. He was promoted to Captain in 1910 and at the outbreak of the war embarked for France gaining the 1914 Star. He was appointed Lt Col in 1919. |

A good scarce example comprising a seeded gilt on copper rectangular plate mounted with silver curled bugle horn, floreated “71” to seeded centre. Fixed belt loop present, detachable belt loop now absent. reverse siver plated and bearing maker’s mark of a fleur-de-lis generally indicatingfirst half of the century. One or two very minor dents to on edge otherwise generally very fine.

An extremely fine and rare Officer’s example by J & Co. (Jennens) bearing Birmingham hallmarks for 1855. Gilt washed die-stamped silver rectangular plate, the centre bearing a Crowned thistle wreath enclosing the numerals “72”. Above the Crown, a tri-part scroll inscribed “Duke of Albany’s”; below the wreath the plate is inscribed “Own Highlanders”. Retaining most of the original gilt wash; the reverse with original fixings comprising a brace of hooks at the top and a brace of studs below and retains original leather backing. VGC (Parkyn 477)
The 72nd joined the Army in the Crimea in May,1855 and served in the expedition to Kertch and the latter part of the Siege of Sebastopol including the assaults of 18th June and 8th September. The regiment returned to England in July, 1856. It became 1st Bn. Seaforth Highlanders on Friday 1st July, 1881 whilst under the command of Lt.Col. Charles Montizambert Stockwell (later CB and Hon. Major-General). |

A very fine and attractive example comprising a seeded gilt rectangular plate with burnished edges. Mounted on the plate, a cut silver Maltese cross with rays between the arms; mounted on the cross, a gilt wreath, half of laurel, half of palm surmounted by a Crown resting on a scroll inscribed “Hindoostan” with further scroll below inscribed “Nive”. To the centre, a silver elephant over LXXVI. On the lower arm of the cross, a gilt scroll inscribed “Peninsula”. Reverse retains original fixings comprising two hooks and two studs. Officer only Corps raised on 1st April 1878 from a Royal Warrant of 22nd October 1877. HM King George V, conferred the title “Royal” in April 1920, on both the Army Pay Department and the OR’s Army Pay Corps. The two were amalgamated later that years as the Royal Army Pay Corps. The Corps of Military Accountants, raised 22nd November 1919, merged with the RAPC in 1925. |

An unusual combination awarded to Major Howard S Illingworth who served with the Army Service Corps, later Kent Yeomanry and was a Chief Officer during the Kenya Mau Mau troubles in the 1950’s. Comprising: Military Cross, 1914 Star “2.Lieut ASC”, British War Medal, Victory Medal, “Major”, Africa General Service Medal, clasp “Kenya” “CH Off H.S.Illingworth MC”. Medals loose GC.
Howard S Illingworth commissioned 26th September 1914 and landed in France on the 5th November 1914. He was Mentioned in Despatches 2nd January 1917 and was awarded the Military Cross whilst attached to the C Corps Siege Artillery Park. The announcement of the MC appeared in the London Gazette. Appointed a Major he retained this rank when he transferred to the Kent Yeomanry in 1920. |

A fine and scarce 1906-14 example comprising a gilt eight pointed star, the topmost point displaced by a Crown. Mounted on the star, a gilt laurel wreath enclosing the Garter. Within the Garter, in silver, an “AVC” monogram on a green enamel ground. Three loops to reverse. Tiny flake to enamel at 11 o’clock on outer edge not affecting appearance. VGC
The all Officer Army Veterinary Department was amalgamated with the OR’s of the Army Veterinary Corps in March 1906. The title “Royal” was bestowed on the Corps in 1918 in recognition of its outstanding service in the Great War. |

Airborne Forces Pegasus patch made in aluminium. The reverse with “This Souvenir ticket is made from one of the crashed gliders which carried the British 1st Airborne Division into Battle at Arnhem on September 17th 1944. World Premiers Britain - Holland - Canada”.

The “ticket” was issued to those attending the premiere of the film just after the war. |

Awarded to Private Charlie Wyn Grant who served with the 6th M.I. of the Bedfordshire Regiment and reenlisted at the outbreak of WW1 with the Army Service Corps Remount Service. Comprising: Queen’s South Africa Medal Five Clasps “Relief of Kimberley”, “Paardeberg”, Johannesburg”, “Diamond Hill”, “Wittenbergen” “5803 Pte C. Grant Bedford Regt”, Kings South Africa Medal two clasps “South Africa 1901”, “South Africa 1902” “5803 Pte C. Grant Bedford Regt”, 1914/15 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal “R4-067398 Pte. C.W. Grant ASC”. Medals loose. The first pair with heavy contact marks and suspensions slack. The group is accompanied by a silver vester case with initials “C.W.G.”. Also a pocket watch this A/F.
The QSA Medal roll confirms the clasp entitlement and shows Grant with the initial W serving with the Bedford Coy 6th M.I. The KSA Roll again confirms the clasp entitlement and shows the initial C. The R Prefix to the WW1 group indicates Remount Service of the ASC. Pte Grant landed in France on the 28th Aprril 1915 and was awarded the SWB. |

A fine example comprising a seeded gilt rectangular plate with raised burnished edges; mounted on the plate, a silvered Star of the Order of the Thistle, mounted on the Star, a gilt thistle wreath, within the wreath a crowned oval bearing the motto of the Order of the Thistle (Lacessit). To the centre, silvered St. Andrew and the Cross. To the left of the Crown, a silvered scroll inscribed “The Black”; to the right, another “Watch”.
